" ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The authors wish to thank the following members of the PRCI technical committee for their thorough and thoughtful reviews: In addition, the authors wish to thank the following individuals for their expert review and comments: Occasionally and under certain circumstances, fatigue may constitute a potential threat to the integrity of some pipelines. Part 192, Subpart O, " Implementing Integrity Management " , Paragraph 192.917(e)(2) requires an operator to address the threat of " cyclic fatigue ". This document explores the questions " What is fatigue? " , " Where can it occur in a gas pipeline facility? " , and " What can be done about it? " The objective is to provide operators and others interested in natural gas pipeline safety with a useful understanding of the extent to which fatigue could pose a legitimate and actionable safety threat, as well as to demonstrate the authors' opinion that in most respects, fatigue remains a comparatively minor risk component of the overall spectrum of threats to natural gas pipeline safety. Basic considerations of fatigue, physical testing of pipe, and operating experience have shown that fatigue due to pressure cycles is not a limiting factor on the service life of sound pipe free …

Experimental values for adjusting an automatic control valve in gas pipeline transportation
When a natural gas pipeline ruptures, the adjacent automatic line control valves (ALCVs) should close quickly to prevent leakage or explosion. The differential pressure set point (DPS) at each valve location is the main criteria for value setting in ALCV action. If the DPS is not properly adjusted, the ALCV may mistakenly close or it may not take any action at proper time. This study focused on...
متن کاملA mixed integer nonlinear programming model for optimizing a gas pipeline transmission linear network
The technical equipment developed and used in both installation and operation processes in refineries, oil and gas pipelines, and gas booster stations has always been expensive. Hence, managers at different organizational levels are keen to find methods to control and reduce these costs. Generally speaking, the operators in a gas booster station choose the operating devices without considering ...
متن کاملRoot Cause Analysis of NIOC\'s 20" Natural Gas Explosion
Transmission and distribution pipelines have a significant role in the oil and gas industries. Pipelines are facing different threat like corrosion, improper design and incorrect operation. Gas vapor released from a pipeline (owned by NIOC) failure spread out and reached to ignition source. Due to gas outdoor spreading, “flash fire” occurred and flame return caused “vapor cloud explosion” of ga...
متن کاملThe Recommend of Filler Metal to Increasing the Corrosion Resistance of Gas Pipeline
The high strength carbon steels such as API X65 is widely used to build the pipelines. In this study, the corrosion behavior welds region of the gas pipeline was studied. For this purpose, Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) was used to evaluate the proposed method. The welding processes were performed with E6010, E6013, and ER70S-6 electrodes as filler metal and welding carried out in 3 passes by ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effect of Local Buckling and VIV Fatigue on Failure Probability of Subsea Pipelines in Iranian South Pars Gas Field
Free-span occurs normally in a pipeline at uneven seabed, dynamic seabed and pipeline crossing. Free spanning in pipeline causes Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) fatigue, fracture and bursting. In this paper, a pipeline located in South Pars Gas Field is assessed against local buckling and VIV fatigue using probability of failure theory based on the recommended methodology by Det Norske Veritas (...
